Dear Editor: I can't help being bothered at your long introduction to "Hispanics" [January, 1986], and it is hard to believe that anyone would assault Mr Hight for taking a very logical, sensible and very widespread stand on this issue. Of course I happen to agree with him — but even if I didn't, I would be shocked that anyone should react so violently to his opinions; it is, after all, still supposed to be a free country. But don't apologize for such articles, or warn people against them. That just isn't appropriate for a magazine like THE ECPHORIZER! Paul W. Healy
Walnut Creek, CA [line width="40%"] Dear Editor: Missed you at the recent Wine Country RG in Santa Rosa, so you were not there to congratulate me on winning the magnum of cheap Chablis for the best entry in the Bulwer-Lytton contest (you know, the one for the worst opening sentence of a novel, commemorating Bulwer-Lytton's classic "It was a dark and stormy night..."). Unfortunately, the real Bulwer-Lytton contest, at San Jose State University, has just happened and so I'm too late to send my entry there. So, as second choice, I'm sending it to you...: "Oh, it's you," she sneered, looking at me as though she wished I were someone else, while her robe hung open to her belly-button and she made no attempt to conceal her pendulous dugs, one a bit longer than the other, which slapped rhythmically against her chest as she wheeled and marched toward the kitchen, sounding as though she were applauding my entrance, but not very enthusiastically.
