I sat in my closed office and read
Time magazine, front to back, as though
choosing to take a furlough behind bars.
I learned about the Peacekeeper, its name
a choirboy among the good ole boys of shrapnel
to the 400th power. Millions of weak
pairs of eyes today and yesterday leaned through
these stories, studying Fate 101 by correspondence
and expecting the inevitable failing grade.


Poetess Sheila E. Murphy is a prolific writer and lifelong flutist, and like all such, does something else entirely different for a living.
