Content <p class="style14">In planning one's career, investments, and so on, or even just in deciding whether or not to buy a new car, it is convenient to know exactly when the world is going to end. By including this event in one's plans, one can avoid putting needless effort or expense into matters that will become useless after the Day of Judgment. Happily, it is now possible to predict the date quite accurately. The calculation is a simple one.</p> We start with the date of the Creation, which has already been fixed by Archbishop Usher (1654) as the afternoon of September 21, 4004 BC. We next turn to the Book of Revelation, Chapter 13, Verse 8: "Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast for it is the number of man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." Now, one might suppose that if 666 is the number of man, the world must have ended in 3338 BC (4004 minus 666), which it obviously didn't. It is clear that 666 is the number of each of the several ages of man. How many ages? Here numerous authorities (Milton, Buddha, the Bible, and Mohammed, to name a few) agree on nine. Nine times 666 quals 5,994. Added algebraically to 4004 BC, this produces a date for the termination of history of 1990 -- the afternoon of September 21, to be exact. Now you need wonder no longer whether or not to install that new carpet; if you will enjoy it before that day but the payments don't start until afterwards, go ahead!
