Ultima Thule
Wes Hight

Issue #53 (January 1986)

One current cosmological theory is that all matter will ultimately decay
to evenly distributed and motionless photons: in other words, a final end
in nothing but changelessly blazing light.

When the dawns have come together,
Fused with mergered dusks, and Time
Is unweaned feather by feather,
And light, spilled, oozes to prime —

Blazoned brilliant all the sum
Of what is or was whatever
Shall fall still at kingdom come;
ALWAYS blanked and numbed with NEVER,
You with me, and slant with plumb.
