The Ecphorizer

Welcome to
The Ecphorizer
an online magazine of bold ideas

ecphorize vb trans [fr Gr εκφοροζ {to be} made known] To evoke ideas or dispositions from a latent to a manifest state. cf. OED

Hello and welcome! I'm Tod Wicks, your host and editor of The Ecphorizer Online, an online magazine that has its roots in the print magazine of the same name published in the 1980s.

This site serves two purposes:

  • To memorialize on the Internet the creative work that The Ecphorizer brought to readers 20 years ago or more,
  • To continue that great forum with new articles and new authors.

In the great tradition that began in 1981 with the original Ecphorizer, the intent of this site is to publish opinions, stories, articles, and the occasional bit of humor.

To ecphorize, broadly interpreted, is to bring forth the latent ideas and judgments buried in the backs of people's minds. It is hoped that The Ecphorizer will stimulate ideas which will become contributions to this e-zine, which in turn (it is anticipated) will be considered thought-provoking and enjoyable reading by our visitors.

Readers are encouraged and welcome to submit items for publication as well as constructive feedback on any article or on The Ecphorizer as a whole.

Go to our Contact Information page to learn how to submit feedback or items for publication.

NOW, feel free to browse our site! You can select from the many options in the menus at left.

Don't forget:  Clicking any contributor's name on the Contents or Contributor pages that is colored brown will open a "pop-up" window with that person's biography and photo (if submitted).

For all you Gareth Penn fans out there, you'll be interested in seeing a rare color photo of Gareth taken in 1985 just by clicking on his name in any Table of Contents.

Important Note:
Please check out what's new by clicking on the Editor's Notes button to the left.

Also, we've added a Menu Item to the left called "Ecphorizations," where we present a list of articles appearing in George Towner's book of the same name.  These are items that were published through the 70-issue "Towner Era" of The Ecphorizer. Check it out and select from the many interesting takes George wrote on computers, travel, and other topics.
